Become a Mentor

The Innovation Pipeline Accelerator (IPA) is an assembled database of early stage companies. Many of them are run by teams of people with little experience running companies. They may be inventors, programmers, managers from larger corporations or just graduated students to name a few examples. The need for guidance from more experienced managers is acute and the ability to pay for consulting is very limited. To address this need we have created this mentor program.
Companies are matched with a mentor for one year at no charge. Please consider applying to become an IPA mentor.  You will not necessarily become an active participant right away. We will try to match you with a company whose service or product would make a good match with your background and whose location is accessible for you.  You are not obligated to accept the companies we select for you. WE will keep trying until there is a match that works for everyone. What we ask of our mentors is explained below.
The role of the mentor is as follows:

  • Be an advisor only to the company to support their growth;
  • Advise company on all options available and not assume a de facto operating position by virtue of your role;
  • Typically meet once per month with the company CEO for lunch.
  • Provide regular updates to program director at mentor@ctipa.org
  • Work pro bono - no current, future or promised consideration
  • If requested by the company, sign a non-disclosure agreement;
  • The Mentor or the Company may discontinue the relationship at any time.

Completion of this application will entitle you to access to the public data in the database. It will also allow IPA companies to invite you to become part of their support team.
Thank you for offering to become a mentor to the next generation of Connecticut companies.
